I heard well I was at the competition that our canoe broke all the records this is going to be the offical record keeping site, because no one else wants to keep them.

  • Heaviest Canoe: University of Ottawa 700lbs
  • Heaviest Canoe to Float: University of Ottawa 700lbs (they couldn't sink it)
  • Heaviest Canoe to Complete a Race: University of Ottawa 3.08 Mens Sprint at 700lbs

  • Back From CompetitionMay 29, 2009
we are back from a very productive competition. We ended up coming in 10th postion overall just above Mcgill, but not high enough to beat anyone else. Thats not to say that we didn't come back empty hand we actually pick up more awards then any other University in Ontario. We came back with the Spirit Award, and Rookie of the Year. Both awards can be see in the civil department office along side all of the other concrete canoe trophies. We would like to thank all of the other teams that competited with us. Everyone help us out in some way or another from New Brunswicks partying to Queen's, Western, Polytechniques helping out with carrying the canoe. Our first year there was pretty amazing and I would recommend all Canadians universities join up, espically Carleton. Looking froward to 2010 and the University of Toronto, way to own up when there where chosing the hosting school.

    Competition PrepMay 14, 2009
So just before going to Montreal when we where moving the canoe for the last time before loading it the unthinkable happens, the canoe breaks in half and we have to come up with a patch job before it is sea ready. We will see how it goes.

We are lucky enough to have gotten materials for a ton of different companies to test out there products in our concrete mixtures. We got more specifically light weight aggregates, and fibers from the following companys:

  • Poraver
  • Styro Rail
  • Expancel
  • Bas-F
  • MCON
  • Lafarge
  • Propex

Thanks to all the sponsors who donated materials.

The concrete canoe competition is a great way to apply the knowlegel that you gain from university, and you will find that you might have a lot to learn. We are working not just with simple concrete. The concrete we do use is a special blend of binders, admixtures, fibers, and aggregates to achive a specific gravity of less then one. Drop by the CSCE office CBY A08 to talk to people on the team, or send us an e-mail so we can invite you out to the next meeting.

    Old CanoeNovember 20, 2008
The commissioning of a trophy case and canoe stand was announced, the selected destination will be the entrance of the civil department. The trophy case will be constructed from the remaining concrete canoe, as for the rest of the canoe it will be placed along side laying down to show the glory of the head.

    Candian National Competition 2006Spetember 11, 2008
Here is a picture I found on the internet of the last University of Ottawa team to compete in the competition. I have got to say tho nice job sculpting that. I had heard from our lab tech that they had did it free head. This years team is going to be focusing more on how the canoe work as oppose to how it looks.
