BIOGRAPHY

From 1973 to 1984 Dr. Fahim was a Research Associate at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Concordia University. He joined the Mechanical Department at the University of Ottawa in 1984.

Dr, Fahim teaches primarily in the areas of CAD/CAM and controls. In addition to his regular administrative duties at the department and the faculty, he has actively participated at all levels of university life: President of the Association of Professors at the University of Ottawa (1993/95), member of the Pension Plan Commitee (1989/present), faculty advisor for numerous student competitions (RALOS, Shell Fuelathon, SAE). He works with industrial and governmental research organizations, often in collaboration with Dr, Munro.


RESEARCH INTERESTS

Computer Control of Mechanical Systems, Automation, and Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing

  • Advanced control for rigid and flexible manipulators and automatically guided vehicles.
  • Early warning systems for heavy vehicle instability and rollover.
  • Uniset for FMCs.
  • CAD using object-oriented technologies.
  • (with Professor Munro)Automation of braiding, pultrusion and winding processes for fibre composite materials.
