N. John Gardner, P.Eng., Ph.D.



~   BIOGRAPHY   ~
       Engineer in the Research and Development Department of the consulting firm of W.S. Atkins and Partners, England (1963-64). Assistant Professor at the University of Western Ontario (1964-67). He worked at the University of Hong Kong (1967-68); this coincided with the turmoil of the Cultural Revolution. In 1968 he joined the University of Ottawa. Dr. Gardner spent a sabbatical leave (1975-76) at the University of Adelaide, Australia and 6 months in 1995 at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Associate Dean (Engineering) 1984-86 and Acting Vice Dean 1985-86, Faculty of Science and Engineering. Prepared the case for the creation of the Faculty of Engineering which was established July 1986.
 


        Targeted to how the structural behaviour of reinforced concrete structures is affected/altered by construction practices. Work on shoring and reshoring is referenced in ACI 347 Guide to Formwork for Concrete and is the basis for all the examples in ACI Special Publication SP5. His work on formwork pressures is the recommended method in CSA S269-M92 Concrete Formwork.
