~   BIOGRAPHY   ~

       After completing his doctoral studies in 1985, Dr. Narbaitz joined the Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Florida International University, the state university of Florida at Miami. He joined the University of Ottawa in 1990, were he teaches and conducts research on physicochemical treatment of water and wastewater.  During his sabbatical year (1997-98) Dr. Narbaitz was a consultant for the Regional Municipality of Ottawa - Carleton. Dr. Narbaitz's research has been supported by the USEPA, Florida Dept. of Environmental Regulation, the US National Science Foundation, IBM, NSW Corp., Otto York Inc., NSERC, Ontario Centre Materials Research (OCMR), Materials and Manufacturing Ontario (MMO), and Filtran Microcircuits Inc.
 


~   RESEARCH INTERESTS   ~

Dr. Narbaitz’s main area of research is physicochemical processes for the treatment of water and wastewater.  Specific interests include:

Activated carbon adsorption

                                -  Electrochemical regeneration of granular activated carbon (GAC)
                                -  Competitive adsorption (evaluation & modelling)
                                -  Cost optimization of GAC systems
                                -  Low cost adsorbents

      Membrane separation processes

-  Development of new membrane materials
-  Membrane air stripping

 

     Air stripping of volatile compounds from groundwater via packed towers

           -  Mass transfer correlations of packed tower
           -  Cost optimization
 

Industrial Waste Minimization

           -  Microcircuit manufacturing
